Once the system is booted and you login, can you setup the display as you desire and all is well?

hi thank you for being there yes i can go into xrandr and rearrange the displays as i want them, i hit the big tick, i then save as. their shows a script saved and i update it. i have a file their i named HP Monitors.sh ( i didnt put .sh ) i have the same problem on the other Dell, its loaded with the same ubuntu 14.04 from the same disk downloaded by torrent. ive looked at Settings Editor/ xftc desktop.( hope this works NO tryed to give you a screen shot) of the 2 dells and the settup DP 1 DP 2. The strange thing for me is i run 3 displays on the OTHER 2 boot mirriored 1 is correct ( on nivida 750 gtx new.Bought because it it does run 3
.) THIS dell has2 displays they boot mirriored. I hope im not confusing the issue. The graphic card nvidia rx 580 quatro is 4 years old with 2 displayports 1 DVI C it will only run 2 displays ( tryed on the old os Win Vista Bissiness before install ssd ) This comp im not playing with like the other, one step at a time. if it helps i have both set up together so i can reference on one transfer solutions to the other

If you can use xrandr in command line, you can add the script to your session startup and make the display as you wish. Is the script file you named designed to do this or is it for something else?

hi i d
unable to open the file to see the script, ive tryed. maybe i should have booted with one display and added the other the next day trawling around trying to find a solution, lead to alot of dead ends. I have updated as soon as posible after install. i see a brief flash of some type of script on shut down and start up. to be honest trying to digest anything to do with the comand line. i could only cut and paste. ( ive broken and reloaded ubuntu 3 times on the other one )that why im being good to this one. on the other comp theirs 3 folders with script files in xrandr this comp 1folder with script file size 155kb

If you run:

xrandr --ouput VGA2 --right-of VGA1

After a reboot, is it ok? If you get mentions about unknown devices then run:

xrandr

and note the display names.

"...both monitors are listed as dp1 dp2 tryed that didnt help..."

Then it must be

sudo xrandr --output dp1 --right-of dp2
or
sudo xrandr --output dp2 --right-of dp1

what if i plug into the DVI

The command to switch the position must then be

sudo xrandr --output DP-1 --right-of DP-2
or
sudo xrandr --output DP-2 --right-of DP-1

and if you use the DVI in addition, you can configure it with something like
sudo xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --right-of DP-2

You have to use the names of the screens as listed by the xrandr --query command!

and this what happened Anyway i have some things to play with i kinda get what xrandr about and can use what you gave me. looking above it would seem i might be a go to connect one monitor to DVI wants to be primary. if i get it right first go the sceen and moments between of the cursor will be how i want them. At the moment i can pick up settings screen and make it go clockwise in a complete circle around me with out stopping or changing direction and spin the other way in a circle around without stopping. NEVER seen that before. i like it. another new thing is desktop background dis appeared on one monitor, when i move the desktop set desktop over to change it all the backgrounds grey out and its impossible to set one bring it back to other display i can set any desktop i want. sooo i play around for awile at 2-30 in the morning and let you go. ill make a post tommorow and tell jokes to my friends about thanks and its only the begining
