Using Canon Camera Software with Ubuntu

Asked by Ashley Dawn

So I bought a used Canon Powershot SD10 from a friend. I've checked Canon's website and they don't have a Linux driver listed for that model. The software that I got with the camera is ver. 14.1 for Mac and ArcSoft Camera Suite 1.2 which is Windows and Mac compatable. I love Ubuntu but don't really know a lot as far as plugging in code goes. Can anyone help me figure this out?

What happens if you plugin the camera and turn it on?

And maby you can run Camera Suite 1.2 with wine.

I had a similar problem with a Canon Powershot G2. The basic answer involves installing gtkam (and gphoto2) via synaptic and making sure the camera isn't mounted already (unmount it yourself if by right-clicking on the icon if it appears on your desktop) when connecting to the camera. Then you can delete photos on the camera. Mode details at:

I managed to install the Canon software e.g. Zoombrowser, under WINE successfully but ... no USB support to enable me to connect to the camera! See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=697238

I prefer gtkam anyway.

NB It may be that nautilus will work for most people with newer hardware. A friend had no problem deleting files from within the standard Nautilus file manager but his camera and its memory card were newer than my G2.

Can you help with this problem?
