You won't need nero. If you want to burn cd and dvd, you can use k3b (that you can install with the following explication).

To install software, you should go in your applications menus, and at the bottom you'll have an item named "add/remove". Click on it and you'll have access to a program that let you install software freely.

What do you mean by the directory?

Though Nero does offer a Linux version, as stated above there are free alternatives.
Here is the Nero for Linux link if you still want to go that route.
http://www.nero.com/eng/NeroLINUX.html

As far as your printer, it would be better to put that into a new request.

There are lots of books available for learning Linux and Ubuntu. Just have to google for recommendations.

If these comments have solved your problem, please consider marking this request as solved. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SupportRequests contains useful information about managing your support request.

If you are still having problems, let us know and we'll keep working on them.

To Install Nero on Ubuntu download the "deb" version of NEROLinux and save it to your Desktop. For third-party software always use the deb version. After download just doubleclick the File. Example "nerolinux-2.1.0.2-x86.deb". A new windows called "Packager Installer - nerolinux" will popup, somewhere it will say that the installation of nerolinux requires 2 additional packages, just press "Install Package" and it will take care of everything. After installation a new icon for nero should appear in the menu. To know where nerolinux was installed open a terminal window and type:
dpkg -L nerolinux. This is how you install stand alone software downloaded from the Internet. However it is advisable to always use the software that has been prepackaged for use with Ubuntu, available thru the program Synaptic Package Manager or from the Add/Remove Software menu item.
