can't open cbu. Files (comodo backup) in ubuntu 14.04

Asked by Robin

Hello cyber space!

I've recently Dban nuked my laptop and replaced my Windows with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and im loving it so far!
How ever i backed up files of importance to me in COMODO BACKUP software, which created a file typ called cbu.
I have the original on a external harddrive.
Now i wonder if there is any way to unpack this file typ in ubuntu (which i would prefer). because comodo software as such is windows operated and doesnt seem to have a equal in the linux system(?).
Is there a software which can handle this file or can i acsess the file through code?

thanks for any help given!
cheers!

You didn't have to dban the drive to install Ubuntu. The Ubuntu installer can remove the NTFS partitions and install itself as needed.

There are many backup solutions in Linux. Huge companies use open source backup solutions to archive data. I'm a big fan of Bacula.

If the Comodo software is proprietary, then the algorithms they use will also be proprietary. I suggest you contact Comodo to see if they have a Linux solution to extract your data. Otherwise you may need a Windows box to spit your data out of the file then backup with an open source solution like Bacula, Deja-dup, pyback, sbackup, backerupper, grsync and rsnapshot....to name a few.

The dban was due to my pc age by now and that i wanted fresh it up ;). But now the backedup file is a cbu. file, which seems to be comodos own type of file. I'll look around more for answer, contacting comodo I will do!
would it be possible to open the file through Bacula?

thanks for answer!

You might try the terminal command

file NameOfTheBackupfile.cbu

to check whether this could be a commonly know file format.

Can you help with this problem?
