Install ubuntu from desktop edition CD.

Asked by YWAMMER

I have installed Ubuntu on one of our low end computers and decided to install Xubunto on another machine with less RAM. However everything worked until I got to the time zone page and after choosing the time zone there was not way to advance the install. I then took another machine and tried to install regular Ubuntu (I had previouly install Ubunti with the alternative CD) with the desktop CD and it did the same thing. Am I just to stupid to find the icon to continue or is there a problem? We have a small private school and I want to use Ubuntu for a basic typing-computer class. I have several computers that have minimal requirements and Ubunto and Xubuntu is perfect.

Please make some common check using first boot menu Ubuntu live cd options...
This: http://i18.tinypic.com/6tzzndc.jpg
Try to perform the "Memory test" and the "Check cd for defects" to be sure the cd is read without errors by the destination pc cdrom driver

Please reboot your pc and starting with Ubuntu live cd, try to put some common Ubuntu kernel live cd options you can find the boot options howto here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

Remove the "splash" and "quiet" options to see more boot infos message and/or errors.
Then try some commons parameters by putting them one by one or together:
noacpi nolapic nodma all_generic_ide

If this don't work i suggest you to download and burn on a cd at lower speed you can do (4x)
here an howto https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
the Ubuntu or xUbuntu alternate install cd iso image:

- ( ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso ): http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/
- xubuntu - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/gutsy/release/

Hope this helps

Thanks--I had a bad download or CD copy. I redownloaded and made a new cd and everything worked.
