I am an Ubuntu (Linux) Virgin and would like to know if you would consider having the server gui as an option when setting up?

Asked by moenorman

As mentioned in the question, I am an Ubuntu (Linux) Virgin and would like to know if there is going to be an option to install the gui during the server installation. I know that you Linux Guru's don't like this kind of talk, however, I have been playing with Ubuntu Desktop and believe I am almost converted. If the Server came with a gui then I am sure that you would get more of us Windows converts across.

Please don't bag me for my ignorance. Your support with this is much appreciated.

Hi moenorman,

You can certainly add 'Ubuntu Desktop' GUI, but probably after the installation.
Just use aptitude package manager to download and install the GUI.

ok well it doesn't install with any kind of GUI at all. when the set up is finished and the system has restarted and ask's for a username and password just login. after the you can begin to install your GUI this is a very simple and easy. when you are at the command line you can type in

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

this with ask for your permission to download ubuntu to your server. say yes. and then it will start your download of ubuntu. as it is downloading you can leave your computer alone for a while to finish downloading. you do not have to do anything for it to install after the download is finished it will automaticly install itself on your drive you have the server on. it is as simple as that just type in the command and let it go. it will do all the work for itself.
