I think these aren't officially supported, but Valknut (a DC -client) , amule (, not amulegui ,I don't know why your isn't working) and bittornado (for bittorrents) are just working ...

Valknut nor amule nor amulegui nor bittornado is supported.

amule works, but crash very often and don't stay on the right place at the taskbar ...

valknut looks non-intuitive...

azureus/bittornado doesn't allow searching

xmule is TERRIBLE looking

I can't believe ubuntu guys don't support any p2p program...

Define "supported". Azureus works just fine here.

The supported packages should be the "official" ubuntu packages, that say "Canonical ltd. provides support and security updates for <package name>".

Azureus has a "this application is provided by the ubuntu community".

And moreover, there is no direct search function in Azureus, like on emule or other popular p2p clients. I think a search feature is something that makes the difference in a p2p tool!

If azureus were a Canonical supported application, I would fill a specification proposal to include a search box that can be used from the program to easily select and download files.

Canonical have limited resources with which to support applications.

Azureus doesn't have a search tool because it's based on bittorrent. eMule is based on the edonkey/overnet network which does have a search function.

It's not a function of Azureus that it doesn't have a search function, but merely a feature of the network it is designed to connect with. This is no different from p2p clients on any other platform. It's the network that defines the search features, not the client.

sudo apt-get install gtk-gnutella

This package is in Universe. I imagine the likelihood of moving any P2P app to Main is low.

Alan,

Then, my reply is a "no" ?

I wanted an application that can search things, and download them easily.

The only one (amule) I found has some nasty bugs, and since it's not supported, I guess I can't post bugs here, right ?

Kurt,

Gnutella looks interesting, let's hope I can use it :)

If you want something included in main - the supported repository then this page may be useful to you:-

Thanks Alan.

I'm not a developer (yet - will be in some years, I'm doing computer science ;), and I really can't make that stuff.

Besides, amule has some noticeable bugs, I wouldn't suggest it.

I'll get in touch with the amule devs .. who knows ...

Thanks for the attention.

And last - I think(my personal opinion) you should consider working and moving some p2p client to main. p2p programs are widely used by desktop users, and I think this would benefit lots of people.

I'm getting arround.

Even not being in main, there are bugs for it ... I found the one affecting me , bug #59138

Also made the bug #73054

Emailed some dev about requesting a move to main. Let's see what he says.

You may wish to check out "nicotine". It connects to the "SoulSeek" network. I'm not sure if it will have the variety of file-sharing you're looking for, though.
