Latest update breaks everything (X, udev and GNOME)
Hello.
Recent upgrade from 2.6.17 to 2.6.19 kernel, broke a whole lot of stuff on my feisty partition!
First i booted things looked good, i got the new Nvidia graphics intro, but then X crashed with the message that it couldn't find any input devices. Okay i thought, that will be a quick fix. But then i realised that /dev/input and /dev/wacom does not exist anymore!
So i had to modprobe psmouse and change the mouse path to /dev/psaux, and delete the wacom entries from xorg.conf to make it work. I also tried modprobing some of the usbmouse stuff, but was unable to get udev to create a /dev/input/mice device, so maybe udev is broken as well.?
Ok now X.org is working, but GNOME won't login. In normal mode i get a gnome terminal with no window borders, and an error message. Nothing else. In failsafe mode i only get to see the light brown desktop background, no windows, no nothing. Everything is broken
Okay i thought, it must be the mirrors so i moved from my local mirror to the official mirror and updated the sources. No changes. My feisty is still up-to-date, and still much broken!
Okay now, then i'll switch back to the old kernel to access ubuntuforums to see if i'm not the only one. So i boot my 2.6.17, with the result that X.org and the old nvidia driver is not compatible any longer. Bad luck, so i switch the xorg driver to the "nv" driver and starts X again. Not i get to the login screen, but GNOME is still broken
My system is AMD64.
