Audios Seperation Skype/Everything Elsee

Asked by Josh

as stated above, i cant get my skype or steam voice chat to output to my headphones and everything else to my speakers.

when i go into sound settings i can only choose 1. so its either EVERYTHING playing on my headset or my speakers.. so now i cant play my games while talking to my friends, i have to do 1 or the other.

how do i fix it so i can choose to have skype and steam output to my headset while everything goes to the normal speakers?

The Audio settings of Skype are very basic. They do not allow to configure a device.

Ubuntu's PulseAudio server is still able to do something for you, but not with the normal Sound Settings.
The program padevchooser can switch a Playback scream from one device to an other. Install and open it, then go to the playback tab, and press the button that shows the used device for the Skype playback stream.

i downloaded it through the software center, and while i can launch it 'cause it just does nothing and sits in the background and i have to kill the process... i can now launch a controller panel from skype to do it which i couldnt do before so im guessing thats what added the feature and fixed it. thanks :D
