installing software and drivers

i am not able to install any new software, drivers, or updates. how would i go by doing this, or do i have to buy something els?

to install software/drivers and updates you need to first enable the internet repositories. you do this by going to system -> adminstration ->software sources . you then need to make sure you have the universe, multiverse and main repositories are activated (also restricted if you want) when you close the application it will ask you to update.

you can then install software with the synaptic package manager and update your software via the update manager

you leave the options checked in order to recive updates and install new software.
most people use pidgin to connect to yahoo messenger, it should be automatically installed but you can install it from the add/remove programs application or synaptic
