Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello, I had Ubuntu 13.04, It was not being supported before and so i was told to update to a newer version.
I bought a magazine which said, "Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS" on the front cover. Some how I missed the "Server" part of it and installed this on my computer. Well, come to find out, this left my computer unusable.

So, I bought another magazine and this time it said user 14.04 but I it also said Kubuntu 14.04 on it.
I installed this but only to find out that it is not the same version I just had with the the nice tabs on the left side of the desktop. I did not like this Kubuntu at all. It was very unorganized, hard to find where anything was at and did not function at all. I saved all my files from the other version and Kubuntu could not open anything, not even a simple mp3 music file.
I doesn't open files, won't play videos, won't doesn't recognize anything on an external hard drive, it is just terrible. It is the worst version of Ubuntu I have ever seen.

My question is this, I want to get the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS version but I cannot find a disk anywhere. Is there a place to get this disk? I have to get the disk because the Kubuntu will not even go on line.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

The Unity based Ubuntu qill also not play MP3s out of the box and needs the codecs manually installing. Under the hood the OS is 100% identical. If you want MP3 playback then install the kubuntu-restricted-extras package and you are good to go. If you want, you can install the Unity shell and log in to that session but it will depend on the amount of HDD space you have. In KDE you can also install and run Gnome based applications without issue

I do not want kde, I do not like it or the way it looks. I wanted to get the regular Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Not Kubuntu.
Where can I get this disk? I used to be able to find the ubuntu magazines with the disk in it. I cannot find the magazine with this disk. I can only find, Kubuntu, linux mint, Arch linux and so on, I do not want these. I just want the regular Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Thank you

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Log off and you will now have the familiar option on the login page.

You can download the contents for an Ubuntu installation disk from the Ubuntu web pages and burn a DVD with it yourself, or you can create a bootable USB stick with the installation kit (which does the same as an installation disk).

Can you help with this problem?
