two os in a single hdd

Asked by franklin fernandez

i have two os in my sing hdd namely, windows and ubuntu gutsy (both 86_64). i install window first, second was ubuntu. ubuntu will both first. here's my questions.

1. how can i make windows booth first.
2. after i reformat and reinstall windows, i can't booth to linux.

(the very reason i can't leave windows in spite it's vulnerability to viruses, was some of the software and hardware will not run on linux to it's FULL potential even with the help of wine, crossover, cedega. hopefully the manufacturer of software and hardware will have a full support to all kinds of linux). i love linux very much.

pls help.

Hi. You can't boot linux after reinstalling windows because the latter deletes the bootloader. If you want to make Windows boot first, you should try qgrubeditor. This app will let you change which operating system boots first.

If you install windows after installing Ubuntu, you must then reinstall grub with the LiveCD. Use the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows
