How do I update to Alpha5 via ix386.Iso Live CD without re-installing

Asked by miked

Howdy Mike-d. here,
How do I update to Alpha5 via ix386.Iso Live/Install CD without re-installing, over existing install. It runs Live C.D. mode great, and passes C.D. Check test.
I currently have Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 Alpha 4 on most of my computers, I would like to re-update, update, dist-upgrade to Alpha 5 today.
These commands do not work yet for latest distrobution-upgrade, says I have latest version:
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo update-manager -d -c
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo update-manager -d
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo apt-get update
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo apt-get upgrade
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It does not detect new version on-line.
When I load Imaged Live/Install C.D. into cd-drive it offers to auto-start, synaptic opens, but doesn't offer to upgrade to latest version, I have settings in synaptic set to ask me, upgrade wise. I have tried adjusting software sources, no luck yet, any suggestions any one. Feel free to answer Iike I don't know anything about this Linux thing, or refer me to hyper-links with answers. Thanks. Mike-d.

If you updated to the latest packages then you already have upgraded to Alpha 5, even I have not seen many package updates just the codecs and some other things. Perhaps there just wasn't much to be updated in Alpha 5.

That answered the part about the
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo update-manager -d -c command not giving me much, but doesn't tell me have to use the c.d. to upgrade.
thanks.
