unable to type my sudo p.w. at command line

Asked by Scott Myers

While trying to install the Pulseaudio Equalizer to Ubuntu 12.04 at the command line, no characters can be typed-in. the system is asking for me to type in my sudo password. (which by the way, may be incorrect--meaning I will be guessing the password) But if I can't type anything at all, then the efficacy of the password is moot. Catch my drift? I have followed the directions of the Pulseaudio dictim to the letter.
Looking forward to hearing your ideas,
Scott

When you type in your password, nothing will show, press enter it will be accepted. If you can't remember your password, see site below.

This is actually a normal security feature of the command line. If you type your password out (although you wont see it), it will be accepted if correct.

Think about having a terminal window open and your password being shown on a previous command. Anyone walking by would be able to see and your password would be compromised.

If you install gksudo you can use that (assuming gnome desktop based OS)

You will then get a pretty GUI but as above has been stated, sudo gives you no feedback. Just type the password and hit ENTER

Can you help with this problem?
