update-manager-d not working

am trying to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04. This is what I got when I ran In terminal. The normal update manager does nothing. Thank you

Try to run it as a regular user, instead of as root.

I get same response.It opens update maneger but does not find the upgrade.bigdavesr@bigdavesr-desktop:~$ update-manager -d

can it be that update-manager-d is not up yet. I have now gotten a message that no releases or availible? Thanks in advance.
