Does ubuntu support the AMD phenom, or are there any plans to do so?

Asked by Mourneblade

Recently got an AMD Phenom 9600 for my desktop. I'm running a dual-boot system with windows and openSUSE 10.4. I knew ahead of time that most linux distributions don't support quad cores yet, and suse is running pretty unstable now. I like ubuntu better anyway, and I'm wondering if it works any better, or if anyone is working on support for it.

Yes..

Recently tried it out..

I cannot see a problem with the Phenom processor and ubuntu. The 2.6 SMP kernel will handle quad x64 just fine. Enjoy the beast... :)

Thanks from me too, Bhavani Shankar, I just dropped a pile of "filthy lucre" [dirty money] on a Gateway 9600 and was about to embark on a test run of my own.

It's good to know that it is up-and-running!

BTW, the AMD Phenom is A BEAST!

Gateway shipped it with 32-bit Windows-Vista! Can you believe that? What a WASTE!!! Even with 32-bit Vista, this baby is a REAL SCREAMER!!

I can't wait to get it up on the x-64 version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu to see what this puppy is really made of!!!

Thanks again for the information, mate. You Rock, Bhavani Shankar!
