My Keyboard and mouse doesn't work during installation of ubuntu 6.10

Asked by Karthik. B

Perfectly working keyboard and mouse doesn't work during installation of ubuntu 6.10. I downloaded .iso image of Ubuntu 6.10 edgy and burned the CD. During installation from this live CD, the ubuntu desktop loads from CD and there is an icon "install". But i'm unable to move the mouse which is working with windows XP to select "install" icon. The mouse seems to be fixed at center of screen and cannot be moved. Later i replaced that mouse with optical USB mouse. This time it worked well and i proceeded with installation. But when it asked to create user account, i found that my keyboard too is not working to type a user name. No keys on my keyboard are working. At this point i stuck in the middle of installation and i'm forced to boot my system with reset button.
Can anybody resolve my strange problem?
My system configuration is as follows:
Pentium 4 dual core
512 MB RAM
Mercury motherboard
Samsung SDM4500P keyboard
Frontec optical mouse
80GB Harddisk

Hmm I can't really say but to me you have two choices here.

1. Try another keyboard and we will try to see if we can fix your keyboard after install.

2. Surf the web for characters that you copy & paste with your mouse (ugly way but it's working).

Have you tried using a different USB port for your keyboard. Also I believe there may be a setting in your bios to 'enable legacy USB keyboard support' or something along those lines, you could try that.

Mine didn't work at first either. I went into my BIOS and checked the USB Legacy Support. It was enabled for both Mice and Keyboards. So I disable mice support and it worked. Dunno exactly why, this works, and the mouse still worked once the ubuntu GUI was loaded.
