problem wth openprinting.org when running sudo apt-get update

Asked by bill

After getting the following message while doing a routint update, i tried the following to try to solve the problem

ted@ted-Satellite-C660D:~$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 24CBF5474CFD1E2F
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --homedir /tmp/tmp.RI14OogQx0 --no-auto-check-trustdb --trust-model always --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/atareao-atareao.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/f-spot-f-spot-ppa.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/freecad-maintainers-freecad-daily.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/freecad-maintainers-oce-release.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/librecad-dev-librecad-daily.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/libreoffice-ppa.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/linrunner-tlp.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/mc3man-trusty-media.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/michael-gruz-canon-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/michael-gruz-canon-trunk.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/nilarimogard-webupd8.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/pipelight-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/vovansrnd-coolreader.gpg --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 24CBF5474CFD1E2F

But after the following update attempt thed problem still exists. Can anyone help please

By the way. I've recently changed my printer to a canon pixma which is working perfecctly after downloading the drivers from the canon web site

Same problem here on my Ubuntu machine. It was working fine in July and early August 2014.

Re-importing the key with

$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 24CBF5474CFD1E2F
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /tmp/tmp.Mavk3i5gEC --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 24CBF5474CFD1E2F
gpg: requesting key 4CFD1E2F from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 4CFD1E2F: "OpenPrinting (OpenPrinting Key) <email address hidden>" not changed
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: unchanged: 1
$

Did not solve the problem as the key is unchanged (already present). As I still have the GPG error, following a

$ sudo apt-get update
[...]
W: GPG error: http://www.openprinting.org lsb3.2 Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 24CBF5474CFD1E2F OpenPrinting (OpenPrinting Key) <email address hidden>

It looks like the key is not recognized as legit.

I don't understand why Ubuntu do not get access with its already present 'Openprinting Key'. As the key appears to not have changed (?), I guess its a problem with the Ubuntu updates somewhere or a key change on the Openprinting server. It was working before August 2014.

I think we have to report the bug on both sides : Ubuntu and Openprinting.org

https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/Database/DriverPackages
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/about/contact
webmaster (at) linuxfoundation dot org

For Ubuntu reporting a bug from Launchpad.net will do it.

The temporary solution was to comment out with a # the following line in /etc/apt/sources.list

# deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main

However this will remove any updates from that repository.

Same, see below.

Although, really, your "temporary solution" is NOT a solution to the problem at hand.

That was not meant to be a permanent solution. This would only let other updates to proceed (otherwise I cannot install even 1 update) while the guys from either Openprinting.org or Ubuntu will be willing to solve their own mess ...

Besides that I provided the e-mail of Openprinting.org and encourage you to report a bug in Launchpad for Ubuntu ...

I don't know what else I can do from here ?

Thanks very much for you help anyway. I probably don't need the openprinting drivers now as i have a canon printer, and they are happy to supply a driver deb for my printer.

I did an update of the repository signature yesterday. Please try again to see whether the problem has gone away.
