How do I get an online radio feed to work?

Asked by Brian Curtis

I am wondering how I can get the following radio feed to work successfully on Hardy Heron fully updated. http://www.lite987.com go to listen live now and try to get any of the plugins to work with it. The site says it works best with VLC but i've installed everything VLC and nothing will get it work successfully. All i get is the advertisement, but when the feed tries to load it doesn't. I've tried all plugins and players (listed in the firefox addons/plugins screen) and nothing seems to work.

Thanks for the question.

Have you enabled the restricted repository and installed the relevant codecs?

Here is more information on how to do this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Hope this helps.

You don't need to install codecs for VLC - it comes with it's own codecs for everything it can play. I tried listening to that feed with the mozilla vlc plugin, and I also just get the ads, which repeat a few times, and then nothing. I also tried using the mplayer plugin, and I couldn't even get the ads. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but at least you know it isn't just you.

You can also play internet radio in Rhythmbox, but you need the URL for the feed, and I don't see it on that site.

Anyone else have an idea?
