Is there a possibility under Linux (Ubuntu) to install software in a compatibility mode like Windows allows.

Asked by Krisis

I want to run a software on Ubuntu 14.04 which require operating system requirement as : Linux version Debian 6, Skolelinux 6, or Ubuntu 10.10.
When i tried to install the software it shows the error message "Dependency not satisfiable libatspl1.0-0".
Is there any way to install and run this software on Ubuntu 14.04 ??

What are you trying to install?

No, there is nothing like a compatibility mode. But that is not a thing that is missing on Linux but something that is required by Windows and it's structure.

In your case there is a lib required, which is not available on your version. Actually it is not available anywhere. It is possible, that the made some mistake while defining the dependencies. I only found one link to that lib name: a dendency for a white board software. What are you trying to install?

In some cases similar to yours it is possible to download and manually install the missing package from an older Ubuntu release.

Are you sure that the missing package is named libatspl1.0-0 and not libatspi1.0-0? That one could be downloaded from http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libatspi1.0-0 and then you could try installing it with gdebi-gtk. Carefully check if there are any additional dependency problems with that package!

Can you help with this problem?
