Chopped Video Output

Asked by WildFulmar

PC = ERGO Mini PC 401
Foxconn Motherboard - 661FX7MJ-RSH
Monitor - Phillips 170S

Video Output works fine when using windows

However in Lubuntu 14.04 all default applications that come with Lubuntu, including Firefox and in addition LibreOffice, Thunderbird, all suffer from chopped up output to the screen either through missing or repeated lines of text or half lines, or blocking out of text in black or grey. It makes it virtually impossible to consider using the system for extended periods of office or internet use as one has to keep scrolling up and down untill you can see the content of a page.

I have run the diagnostic and the ouput is below, I do hope you can help as I'm getting quite fond of using Lubuntu in preference to Windows, but this video output issue is very distracting and time consuming. Thanking you in anticipation

Regards
John

Those SiS chips are far from great. The only way i have seen them work is with an xorg.conf file.

Try the VESA driver. It will not be fast, but it should solve the issue.

Create /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the contents:

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Configured Video Device"
        Driver "vesa"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Monitor "Configured Monitor"
        Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
