no sound acer aspire 4720Z

I have installed Ubuntu 7.04, then updated it to 7.10 on Acer Aspire 4720Z. The sound card is seen, however, no sound is there either with 7.04 or with 7.10. I tried the troubleshooting, but with no use. I have removed then reinstalled ALSA mixer. The soundcard is Intel HDA. Still no response. The media are being played but with no sound. Hope that you will have a solution for me, because so far Ubuntu is really wonderful and I am enjoying it.

It looks like the linux-backports-modules package is needed.

Downloading the linux-backports-modules package did a great job. It solved completely my problem. The link contain other instructions for the WLAN and the webcam that I will try later. Thank you so much Randy LeJeune. You brought me a great relief.
