How do I reset Ubuntu 12.10 to factory settings?

Asked by Alan

I'm trying to reset my laptop because i had a lot of junk files. I used to have a password on my account, but i decided to take it off. But when I saw a way to restore it, it told me to put these commands in terminal, but when i got on the second command it told me to put in a password when i had already taken off the password. Then they also say to re-install Ubuntu which I don;t know how to do. Please tell me of a way I can restore my laptop to factory settings. I know that I will lose my files, Ok? I just want it reset.

At first: you can not take the password off completely in Ubuntu Linux (infact it is possible, but hard to do). What you just did is deactivating the password check for the login.

Second:
Ubuntu 12.10 is out of date. There is no support anymore, you don't get updates and can't install new software from the repositories.

The best way to get a nice fresh Ubuntu is to backup your personal data (!), download Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (it is supported until 2019), burn it onto a CD/DVD/USB stick and install it. You will find the download, burning and installation instruction at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/

Can you help with this problem?
