stuck on logo screen at boot

Hi, I have 12.10 installed and has been working fine however it now gets stuck on the logo screen. I try safe mode but get:
Couldn't find whiptail, starting root shell instead of recovery menu.
Any ideas on how to solve this please.

12.10 is no longer supported by Canonical or the Ubu tu community. It is EOL

I suggest you wipe Quantal and clean install Trusty. Trusty is LTS and supported til April 2019.
