lost admin privelages on admin user

I was downloading "Digital Universe Atlas" and the computer got shut off without
shutting down when i rebooted i lost all admin privelages. I can get to recovery
mode but dont know what to do from there. I am new to linux.

                                                               any help would be appreciated.

In recovery mode, try to run:
'adduser username admin'

Where username is your login name.

Then run 'visudo'
Make sure there is a line:

%admin ALL=(ALL) ALL

If it's not there, make one at the bottom.

Hit ctrl-x to exit. Answer yes to save changes.
Reboot and try to perform some admin task.
