And the output of:

lsusb

I hope you aren't loging in to LightDM as root and instead, have made a root console.

IMPORTANT thing about lsusb:

   The device displayed in this line: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:0745 Microsoft Corp. Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth , isn't the ultrabook built-in bluetooth. It is a Microsoft wireless mouse that has a micro usb bluetooth adaptor. This hardware is working very well.

    The problem is with Lenovo S400U built-in bluetooth that isn't reconized by Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

All I can suggest is report a bug. You could try the mainline kernel ppa. The newer kernel version may make it work.

Andrew,

   Even using a newest kernel version from mainline kernel ppa, the problem persists. I'll open a bug report, thanks.

I had a similar problem.

It fixed for me doing the following:
* Disconnect the microsoft bluetooth dongle
* Restart the laptop
* Pair my handset using the builtin bleutooth device
* Plug the microsoft dongle back

It looks like a conflict to me.
