Help with upgrade

Asked by Allen

I'm having trouble upgrading from 10.10 (to anything), 14.4 would be good.

I try to down load the image and it craps out at 24% every time.
Can't use the upgrade feature, it just tells me I don't have Internet ???? I have it so what's up with that!

And what is up with this "timeout error" on Launchpad? It took me all day to get a question posted.
The summery should read "fun with computers".

Thanks

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Please read above site. Upgrading, you must upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 and then to 14.04. When you are upgrading, which release are you trying to install?

Last answer is wrong, please disregard. Upgrading from 10.10 you will have to go to 11.04 then 11.10 then 12.04 then 14.04. It would be a lot easer to backup anything important, then do a clean install of 14.04.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/

Did you download Ubuntu 14.04 from either of these sites? I downloaded from the second site about a week ago, no problems.

This site has a torrent download. It will download faster.

I'd suggest a clean install of Trusty. You would need to upgrade to every release between which will take a long time and will leave lots of fluff from each release which may cause issues. Trusty is supported til April 2019 so after the reinstall you can forget about upgrading for a while

You can restore your user data from your backups.

I have tried all the sites listed above save one!
The Torrent option.
I have that running as I write this, what do I do with that file when it's done?
My guess is make a USB stick to run at start up.
If so, what program would you recommend making that with on a machine running Ubuntu 12.04?
Any step by step instructions would be helpful.

Thanks

Make sure to make it ISO. Also run a MD5sum check.
UNetbootin is used by some people. I think this is for USB. I have never used it.

I burn a DVD. If you do that, I think any burning program will work, if it can burn an ISO.
Maybe someone can give more information on using USB.
