installation of Ubuntu 7.10 does not work

Asked by kkossman

I have been trying to install " Ubuntu 7.10 for your PC " for several weeks now without success. This was from the CD provided by you.
In addition I have been trying several different downloads of the 713 M iso file after burning CD's from them, also without success. The result is always the same.
I succeed in booting into the operating system and use it in the "living version" state.

When I hit the install icon, things proceed until I am informed that some security updates could not be obtained and that I should take care of that later
by contacting http://security.ubutntu.com. Then the installation proceeds until the screen reads

                                                              Installing System

                                                             Configuring Hardware

                                                             94% done

The result is always exactly the same. I have tried about 8 times now. I might add that Version 5.04 for Intel x86 works fine, as do Mepis, Suse, Caldera and Xandros.

Please try installing again and report back. Has your issue been fixed?

Thank you.

There is no point in trying to install again, since my issue has not
been fixed.

You may be correct. However, there were reports of a downed repository, giving you the error with the security updates. If your problem is related to the failed security updates, it may be worthwhile to try again.

Can you help with this problem?
