Cannot listen to mp3s in Amarok, also having trouble opening Amarok

Asked by Trapper Dave

I am having alot of problems with Amarok. I can load it from terminal, however when I try and load it from Applications >> Sounds & Video >> Amarok, the splash screen comes up and stays up, with an error also appearing telling me that "Xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers". When I do manage to get into Amarok through the terminal, I am unable to listen to any mp3 files.

I initially get a message in a pop up telling me that "Amarok cannot currently play mp3 files", if I select the option to install support, nothing seems to happen. Even with closing an re-opening the Amarok, the problem re-occurs. Finally, if I try and play an mp3 file, I get a message telling me that "These media could not be loaded into the playlist:".

Does anyone know what I can do to try and fix this?

Make you sure, you have all suitable codecs to play mp3 files - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
