Cannot get wired ethernet working on Asrock Z87E-ITX motherboard due to Intel I217V, I think.

Asked by crateria

I recently built a computer, selecting every part with Ubuntu in mind, but have run into trouble getting a wired connection to work with my Asrock Z87E-ITX motherboard. It seems the Intel I217V ethernet is the issue. Wireless worked after Ubuntu found an alternate driver. It seems there isn't a driver for the Intel I217V that works with Ubuntu 14.04. I am not sure where to turn. I found a driver on Intel's site, but the latest version doesn't match the current Ubuntu kernel (I think it needs to?). Plus, and this is embarrassing, but the directions in the read me file of the driver I was going to try and install anyway are way over my head. Are there plans for an official driver that I can download and have installed directly? Thanks.
