about aptoncd

Asked by Nitin

While using ubuntu 7.10 I had downloaded programs using apt-get and have made aptoncd. I would like to know if this cd will work on other versions of ubuntu such as 8.04 in future.
In Kubuntu also I have downloaded aptoncd program and hope to burn a cd from it. In ubuntu when I insert aptoncd package manager starts and it automatically detects dependencies and installs all the required packages. But when I used this cd on kubuntu, it wasn't so. However I was able to install opera from it.

If it is possible to use on coming versions then I wouldn't have to waste time downloading multimedia codecs and vlc.

Waiting for your answer.

Hello Nitin

Yes.. You can use it... But It will install the packages that were released during 7.10 time i.e older software than which will be currently available from 8.04 repositories,

The best feature of Apt on CD is it's possible to add other deb packages inside the AptonCD media, even those that weren't installed using the apt-get tools. There are two ways to do this:

you can use the Add Package... button then find and open the deb package you want to add (or)

The other way is simply drag-and-drop the package from Nautilus/Konqueror to AptonCD window. Using both methods it's possible to add multiple packages at same time.

Hope the info helps

Bhavani Shankar.
