Is it safe to remove package linux-image-generic?

Asked by Duke

I'm currently running Ubuntu 14.04 with the latest kernel (version 3.13.0-29.53).

However in Synaptic (or when running 'sudo apt-get autoremove') the following package appears under 'Installed (auto removable)':
    Package: linux-image-generic
    Installed Version: 3.13.0-29.53
    Latest version: 3.13.0-29.53
    Description: Generic Linux kernel image

This package has the same version as the kernel I'm currently running. Is it safe to remove this package ?

These are the other packages related to the kernel that are currently installed:
    linux-headers-3.13.0-29
    linux-headers-3.13.0-29-generic
    linux-image-3.13.0-29-generic
    linux-image-extra-3.13.0-29-generic

Thanks a lot in advance.

It's a metapackage to manage kernel updates. I suggest you keep it.

Can you help with this problem?
