Unity Desktop still freezing in Ubuntu 14.04

Asked by wordsmyth2

Have reported this problem previously, no solutions posted. And it's getting worse. Entire desktop freezes intermittently - including launcher. I have to power down and then re-boot to resume my work. I'm a longtime Ubuntu user and did not experience this problem with 12.04 or 13.10. Why has there been no fix for this?

Have you tried a non-compoziting session like XFCE? If you install the xfce4 package and log off, you can log in to the XFCE session. Is it better?

Sent that info in my previous post, AP. No probs with XFCE .... but
I want to stick with Ubuntu. Will most likely switch back to 12.04
if problem persists - and so far, it has.....:-(

Are you using an nvidia graphics card? Installing nvidia driver version 331 caused a problem for me with a particular graphics card. If you've installed version 331, try 304 instead, and hopefully that might fix it.

Hope this helps,
Hamish
