Several hunderd duplicates of certain contacts in Thunderbird

Asked by Pablo

I am getting several hundred duplicates of particular contacts on my gmail address book mounted in Thunderbird. I delete them iand on the next start up they are there again. The curious thing is that when I go to gmail on the web, those address (and many others, are not there at all--it appears not to be synchronizing from3 Thunderbird to gmail on the web. BUt that doesn't bother me. What is worrisome is the inmense duplication of particular contacts in the address book. What to do?

Thank you for your help

Thank you for your response. The problem arises most notably with two addresses, which I have just deleted completely. Previously I had always left one instance of the address. Upon complete deletion, Thunderbird has recovered from it's sluggishness, but it remains to be seen if the problem recurs, as it has in the past.

The following is the output requested:

When I rebooted, the hundreds of copies of the two deleted contacts reappeared in the Thunderbird addressbook.

I disabled the Thunderbird add-on called Google Contacts 0.7.12 which is supposed to sync the Thunderbird contacts with the gmail contacts. That eliminated the problem.
