No Skype in Ubuntu 14.04

Asked by lyn

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 a few weeks ago. I did have Ubuntu 12.04.
I was surprised that there wasn't a Skype version I could use in Ubuntu 14.04. there isn't anything in the Software Centre. I tried installing it from the Skype website but they only go up to Ubuntu 12.04, and trying to install that version on Ubuntu 14.04 didn't work. I tried enabling Partner but that didn't help.
the Software Centre only has Chat programs. is there another Ubuntu friendly program that is similar to Skype where you can make video calls?
and does anyone know why Skype doesn't have an updated version?
thanks
lyn

There is a Skype version (4.2.0.11-0ubuntu0.12.04.2) in the partner repo for Ubuntu trusty. Maybe you need some modification in your sources.list file.

What is the output of

uname -a
lsb_release -a
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list | grep partner

Or you can grab the deb from the Skype site......

Can you help with this problem?
