Grub residue stops recovery start up

Asked by ndc_home

I tried an install of Ubuntu 14.04 on a Win 8.1 LenovoG580 Laptop. However this stopped the ability to log on to Windows. It also stopped Laptop recovery tools from running. I eventually managed to re-installed Windows 8, but there is still a residue of Grub left which stops the the Lenovo Recovery tools starting. There are Ubuntu entries in the laptop start up menu (i.e. prior to Windows starting). How do I completely get rid of all traces of Grub/Ubuntu please? Thanks

You have to use Windows tools to recreate the entries for the Windows boot loader. Please ask in a Windows forum for details.

One would hope so, but so far nothing gets rid of the Ubuntu/Grub entries. So the next step is to completely restore PC to original settings and start all over again. I think Ubuntu needs a health warning for Windows 8.1. i.e. DON'T try to Install alongside Win 8.1.
