Trouble installing Ubuntu server on Compaq Proliant 1500

Asked by GOakham

I've downloaded the Server version ( after reciveing the desktop version and getting the error messages ACPI: UNABLE TO LOCATE RSDP , and <0> KERNAL PANIC - NOT SYNCING: ATTEMPED TO KILL INIT!)and burned the ISO to disc.
I tried a normal boot, with the same error messages.
I then tried it with the command :_

Boot: install acpi=off

and the ACPI: UNABLE TO LOCATE RSDP message is not Displayed :D , however, the <0> KERNAL PANIC - NOT SYNCING: ATTEMPED TO KILL INIT! still is :( , at which point the install seems to hang ( no raid drive, or cd lights), any idea on how I can get passed this?

I've installed a separate graphics card, but this just seems to give me a different boot menu. I've run memtest, with no apparent problems.
I've also disconnected the tape drive that was also being looked after by the SCSI card ( so only the Raid drive and the CD are on it now), but still no joy

Thanks in advance

Gerald

Are you using the current version of Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy, or the older 6.06 LTS Dapper?
