I set keyboard to Spanish but it defaults to English on reboot

Asked by Pablo

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 in Spanish and I set keyboard layout to Spanish as first choice, but keyboard defaults to English on reboot. I deleted English as a keyboard layout option and on reboot it still defaults to English. What do do?

Thank you for your help

does that help you change it in CLI? We can then set a command to run when you log in.

I pasted gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources current 0

but layout still defaulted to English on reboot.

Was that what I was to do?

Yes but before the reboot and after you run the command, is it ok?

Probably bug #1240198

proposed solution:

1) open terminal
2) run ibus-setup
3) open the extra settings (the last tab)
4) check the "use system keyboard layout" checkbox

Thanks to you both.

Responding to Actionparsnip -
When I pasted gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources current 0, without rebooting, the layout corrected itself. So if you can help me with a command to run on login, that should solve the problem, right? Thank you, in advance, for your help..

You can use the 'startup applications' and add the command. It wil run every time you login.

I have hade the same Problem on a Laptop, i fixed it with dconf-editor: "use-system-keyboard-layout" property is enabled (But thats a Workaround)

But now i have a 5 year old ACER Veriton T661, have installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 - Result: no Problem Keyboard keeps SwissGerman like adjusted.

Then i have changed the Motherboard Battery on this T661, after Reboot the Keyboard Layout has gone back to english. I set it back to SwissGerman.... shutdown, unplug the PC from Power reboot several Times ... Keyboard Layout is still swissGerman ... no Problem anymore.

It looks like a Problem with the location where this information is held. Please check on the Computers with this Problem the Mainboard Battery, maybe thats the Problem?
