install Ubuntu from USB flashdrive

Asked by Mathias Berghe

Hej there .
I have tried to install the latest ubuntu from a USB flashdrive and every time half way the instalation it stops and give me a message
that i have to burn the program at a lower speed, or my harddisks is to old, or i have to place my pc in a cooler invironment.
For the first i have tried to install on 3 different hard disks, i have placet my pc infront of an open window with the side covers removed from my pc, second i install from a USB flashdrive and not from a CD.
My pc is an older pc with an Intell pentium 4 processor and 4 Gigs of ram.

Your system is far above the minimum requirements so don't worry about the age. As long as everything is physically ok it is fine. I've installed and still run Ubuntu on much less than that. This isn't Windows where you need to own a super computer just to get the desktop.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

You can transfer the ISO onto the USB drive using unetbootin which runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Ubuntu also comes with usb creator by default. You can also use that. There are lots of other tools to put Ubuntu ISOs on USB storage and the same can be used for SDCards too.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Mathias Berghe for more information if necessary.
