Hi, where are the printer drivers that used to be readily available?

Asked by Lance Thoreson

I appreciate all of your hard work, however Linux , Launchpad and all of it's associated programs have become impossibly ponderous, if not impossible to use. It seems you all are trying to outtrick yourselves in complexity. What's the point?
Again, could you please tell me where the list of printer drivers is located.

Thank You,
Lance Thoreson

P.S Shouldn't Linux be easier to use than "Windows". I know a Mac is.

No OS is outright easier, it's all about experience and intelligence. I find Mac absolutely infuriating to do anything you can name. I have to trick the Mac into doing what I need to do. The stuff I can do in Linux or Windows in seconds takes a good few minutes in a Mac for me.

There are some drivers as part of the Ubuntu default install, especially HP which are nearly all catered for by the HPLIP project which is in a default install. If you have an HP printer it will nearly always work without additional drivers and applications, unlike Windows which often needs several hundred megabytes of downloaded drivers to make things work (If you don't have the CD).

Some companies also support Linux (in various guises) quite readily. BVrother and Canon often supply Linux drivers in DEB and RPM format on their websites.

If you can give the exact make and model of your printer we can advise more exactly.

Thanks

Hi, The printer is an HP C6240. Thanks for your help. However, was the intelligence comment really necessary?

Yes. People with a natural aptitude or learned skill with one thing will be able to transfer some ability to something similar, so it applies

If you are on Precise and it is working for you then use it, otherwise yes get on to Trusty either by online upgrades or a clean install using CD or USB.

Hi, where are the printer drivers that used to be readily available? This is your statement. Have you downloaded HPLIP from Ubuntu Software Center? The site below showes your printer is in HPLIP.

I already stated that with

" especially HP which are nearly all catered for by the HPLIP project which is in a default install. If you have an HP printer it will nearly always work without additional drivers and applications"

No?
