sudo apt-get install googleearth-package

make-googleearth-package --force

I tried a few things gleened from a search - each time GE fired up and looked like a winner. Then it quit with no explanation. I really cannot explain how I managed that!! I've now bookmarked that link for the next time I cock things up! Thanks again.
