How can I move my OS from a 10Gb drive which is 90% full to a 1Tb drive i've just installed, Thank You

I'm running 12.04 and would like to move it to a 1Tb drive which i've just installed. Is that possible in a simple fashion? Thank You.

If you boot to the live CD / USB you can create the partitions on the new drive as you need and mount them. You can then use rsync to copy the files between. Be sure to get the source and destination the right way around. You can use grsync as a GUI if you want.

You can also use 'dd' in terminal which works on unmounted partitions and will copy bit by bit.

These are 2 possible ways I can think of. You will need to chroot to the copied OS and edit fstab as the ID of the partitions will have changed. Grub will also need to be installed on the MBR of the drive too. It may be easier to reinstall as from fresh then copy over configuration data from the old drive.
