Virtual Box installation has no menu or task bar

Asked by ealthuis

Recently, after getting my computer working again I installed Virtual Box through the Synaptic Package Manager.

I did this because I am concerned that a previous installation from Oracle caused me some problems.

Now this installation is missing both the menu bar and the task bar. How do I get these two installed?

Virtual box 4.3.10-dfsg-1 plus guest additions.

In addition to the above, I have no access to the USB ports, I do have the DVD drive.

Ok. From what you are saying, the guest has no window decoration across the top. A floating OS window with no way to drag it around?

What is the output of :

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy `dpkg -l | grep virtualbox | awk {'print $2'}`

Thanks

If you use a non-compoziting session, like XFCE is it OK?

You can install XFCE with:

sudo apt-get install xfce4

Log of and log in to XFCE, is it OK there?

No,

What I have is "application menu, Oracle VB manager, Windows 7 running", further 4 workspaces time and my name
Along the bottom only the Windows 7 task bar.

All programs work the same as before.

The problem has not been resolved, and is in need of further
investigation. Maybe this should be a bug report instead?

I have posted this problem with Oracle Virtualbox, and have no solution there either.

This must be investigated, as VB cannot be used.

I reset Unity, then Istarted Unity by entering the command "unity"

This is the result:
