change desktop environment to xfce or better

Asked by Ken

I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 13.01 but I like to change the desktop environment without the need for a complete re-install. I have happy memories of xfce so that is one option. Are others like Mate and Cinnamon available for Ubuntu?

Why would you need to reinstall to change the desktop? You don't need to reinstall to switch web browser. .. both of these are completely interchangeable. Just run:

sudo apt-get install xfce4

Log of and then log in to the XFCE session. You can install as many desktop environments as you can find and store on your system. You simply have to choose one at login time

Thanks, Andrew. I'm such an idiot! You've helped me with this before so I'm sorely embarrassed.
