Missing audio

Asked by Tom Field

I am running Breezy Badger and I'm having problems with my sound. I've gone through the alsa mixer and it looks ok, I'm just using basic Polk Audio speakers and it recognizes the sound card but still no sound. Also is there an easy way to dual boot with Windows XP? Thank you for your help

Do you have any more information on your sound card? It may be possible to find the make and model of it by pressing <Alt> + F2, then typing:

hal-device-manager

and then clicking 'Run'.

I've known some sound card drivers (especially C-Media ones) swap output from the 'Line Out' audio socket to 'Line In'. Try connecting your speakers to the different sockets in turn.

Regarding dual-booting with Windows XP, take a look at some of these for ideas:

Can you help with this problem?
