Camera connected to HDMI port

Hello, everyone!
Sorry for disturbance.
My system is Ubuntu 14.04. Lenovo G 580 laptop.
I am trying to use camera Sony HDR CX with laptop connected to hdmi port.
I connected it to HDMI port and watched whether it appeared among possible monitors in Preferences but no sign of connected camera.
My camera doesn't have a memory card. I don't know whether it is important to record something through hdmi port

The HDMI ports on most (nearly all) computers are output only. You can not use video input devices with them.
There are some special devices that allow HDMI video capture. I found this list: http://bestcapturecard.com/best-hdmi-capture-card-list
But I can guarantee Ubuntu compatibility.
