POP3 Server Connection

Asked by Lester S

Hello, I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 for at least 4 months and all of a sudden my Thunderbird email is not working. When I open the program i receive alert: Unable to establish TLS connection to POP3 server. The server may be down or may be incorrectly configured. Please verify the correct configuration in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window and try again.
I've checked all my setting but I have not changed anything. Contacted my ISP and they suggested I contact you because they weren't able to slove my problem.
Thanks

The sudden change points to the direction of the ISP, maybe there is a fault the support is not aware of.
Can you tell which ISP it is, so I am able to check the servers?

Who is your email provider?
Does the system have web access?

If you run:

ping -c 4 mail.twc.com

Do you get replies?

My ISP told me to change my mail server name to the latest company that took over which was Time Warner Cable which didn't solve my problem. I decided to change back to company name before which was Insight, they said was invalid and didn't exist anymore, well email is working again.
Thanks for your help & problem is solved.
