wifi suddenly stopped ubuntu 14.04

Does the laptop have a make and model?
What wifi chip are you using?
What release of Ubuntu are you using?
Have you checked wifi is enabled using the network icon on the panel?

We neef details. We cannot see your system so you need to tell us things. How can anyone in any OS reply to thos. Imagine such a bare question in a Windows forum (which I assume you would say you are ok with). How can someone reply?

I am extremly sorry for not providing detailed information, the laptop i am using is Compaq CQ 130, OS Ubuntu 14.04. I have checked my wifi its working every where except on my laptop, my wifi was working but all of a sudden it stopped as if some turned my router off except the fact that router was not turned off. Couple of hour before the incident i had updated my computer by software updater. Thank you for replying.

Have you rebooted your router?

No , but since my phone and tablet are working and the fact that my laptop was working but suddenly it stopped i assumed that the problem is with the OS. I will reboot the routet and check.

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a; uname -a

Dear actionparsnip Thank you , the issue has been resolved , I rebooted the router and things just happened and my laptop got the signals back. Its working now but I cannot rule out such incident happening again because I don't know what went wrong and I have n't done anything to fix it either. If you still want me to send you the output of those commands I will .
