Can't get netflix working on 64 bit Trusty

Asked by Willing2Learn

I just got a new (to me) machine and am running the 64-bit version of Trusty, amd I'm using Firefox 28.
I'm trying to get it all dialed in, but am having problems getting Netflix to work.

I first attempted to install pipelight-multi from ppa:pipelight/stable.
I then executed
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable flash
sudo pipelight-plugin --unlock shockwave
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable shockwave
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable unity3d
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable widevineudo pipelight-plugin --enable widevine

At first, I was able to get Netflix to try to load movies, but got a DRM error message, so I ran
rm -rf ~/.wine-pipelight
and then wound up with Netflix giving me the error message you see when it's not happy that you're trying to watch it with Linux. I've tried User Agent Switcher, User Agent Overrider, and UAControl.

I then attempted to purge pipelight-multi and install pipelight and wine-compholio from ppa:mqchael/pipelight and ppa:ehoover/compholio.

I now have Netflix beginning to load movies, but I then get the DRM error again (Error N8156-6023).
I have UAControl set to send
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20120427 Firefox/15.0a1
to
netflix.com, as well as the defualt for all sites not listed.

I also have the "Show in Contect Menu" box selected.

I also tried closing Firefox and running
firefox &> pipelight.log
but all that happens is Firefox opens to my homepage.

On my 32 bit machine, I'm using Firefox on Precise, installed pipelight and wine-compholio from ppa:mqchael/pipelight and ppa:ehoover/compholio, and use UA Control with this string: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20120427 Firefox/15.0a1. It works, except that the system can't run it smoothly, which is why I would like to get it working on my speedier system.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/11/ppa-for-netflix-desktop-app.html

Use that PPA or contact the PPA maintainer. If you need Netflix then I'd bet you'll be disappointed.
