unable to install ubuntu 12.04.4-desktop--i386

Dear Sir,
I am new comer to linux world.I had installed ubuntu 8.04 lts version
But i can not view videos in this OS.i am not able to install any
downloaded softwares in this system.I wish to install ubuntu 12.04.4,
I have downloaded ubuntu 12.04.4-desktop-i386.iso.As my dvd drive is
not working now i am not able to install it from cd. I wish to
install it directly from hard disk.I had gone through ubuntu
documentation ,but i failed.Please advise me how to install this os
direcyly from hard drie if there is any such option.
My system requirements is as folloes:

Pentium P4
512 MB Ram
80 GB hard disk

If you use usb creator you can put the ISO onto a USB stick or SD card.

Thanks for this reply.But i had once used one usb drive for installing 8.04.4.
After installing 8.04.4 somehow i changed the state of usb drive to its previous state .I followed some steps that i got from internet.Now i am not able to use this usb drive.Now when i insert this usb drive when i double click on it ,
"unable to mount location"
can't mount file

message box comes.Please help me to solve this issue from ubuntu 8.04.4
and reuse this usb drive

Hi,
install "daemon tools" and mount a virtual driver, open the iso file and install.
the first time i installed ubuntu was in that way.

Just some thoughts. Always use Safely Remove Drive, when removing USB. May be the problem with your USB drive. I had to use Windows to format a USB drive, to get it to work . 512 ram may cause 12.04.4 to a little slow, especialy if you have onboard video card that uses some of the 512 ram. You might consider Xubuntu. It uses less resources and is more like 8.04.

thanks for your reply. i had used the following command
and somehow i got access to usb
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdf1 /mnt/tmp -o uid=1000,gid=100,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137

i used UNEtbootin to create a usb bootable ubuntu.but when i am rebooting the system the usb is not automatically detected.ie installation does not start automatically.i have changed the BIOS settings ie first boot device to Removable.still the current oS 8.04.4 is bootig up instead of installing 12.04 from usb
Please help me.

Try using lili usb creator to create a bootable usb pen.
